A jewel on the banks of the Mekong River in the south of Laos, this resort is a haven for casual elegance amid nature. Guests can enjoy the verdant, naturally landscaped parkland and 400 metres of stunningly beautiful Mekong riverscape. The resort features 28 spacious villa-style guestrooms (22 with panoramic Mekong and sunrise views, and six with lush views of rice paddy fields, ponds and age-old trees). This eco-friendly resort and its staff do its best not to damage the environment, and most of the furnishings are fabricated from ecologically friendly natural bamboo.

“My ambition when I created The River Resort was to show the world the nature and beauty of Laos. Our eco-friendly resort started with 20 rooms, and after a few years we added another eight rooms. I love to show people how beautiful and wonderful life can be here at The River.”

From concept to implementation, this resort’s intentions remain firm: to preserve the natural environment in every way possible. The native flora and fauna on the 30,000sqm of private, verdant parkland is well protected. Many of the mature indigenous trees soar over 25 metres in height and are generations old. To this day they tower over the lush, tropical landscape, and according to local beliefs are inhabited by protective spirits.The eco-friendly Resort and the staff do their best not to damage the environment. They cultivate their rice paddy field and vegetable gardens with organic matter from the compost pit, and most of the furnishings are fabricated from ecologically friendly natural bamboo.
More than 90% of the staff are local villagers and rice farmers. For the first time in their lives, many of them have learned that education is the key to a better life, not only for their children but themselves as well. To help them on that path, the resort regularly offers English language classes taught by qualified visiting teachers. In an effort to show respect to local traditions, guests and staff are invited to participate in indigenous cultural activities offered at the resort including the baci ceremony, and traditional Lao music and dance.
