I am so happy I picked this hotel for four nights in Penang. The building is just exquisite and one of a kind. Every inch is very warm and comforting while at the same time serving as a lovingly restored testament to Penang’s history and charm. The location is wonderful and it is easy to get anywhere. Convenience stores, a hawkers market and a multitude of other restaurants are all within 2-5 minute walk. The food at breakfast and at the Indigo (the set menu lunch is a great bargain) are also great. Not pretentious, but beautifully presented and delicious. And, of course, the Staff, who are so kind and responsive that it’s just a pleasure to be there. Really can’t say enough about the staff. As part of being a guest you also get to join any of the guided tours of the mansion, and I’m glad I followed the Staff’s suggestion to do it on my first day there. Sally, who was the guide for our tour, really brought the building and Cheong Fatt Tze to life. And at the end of the tour, when the general public is just in awe, it’s a pleasure to just be able to return to your room (public not allowed near the guest rooms). It’s been a great experience and made me feel a part of Penang’s past. You can’t go wrong staying here and you’ll also be helping to support a historical icon of days past.
