This journey has been personally designed by Ibu Ati, who is a Balinese priest, attached to local traditions and values and also owner of Surya Shanti Hotel.

This itinerary has been prepared to make you discover in 14 days the diverse and beautiful sceneries of the Magic Island of Bali, often called The Island of the Gods. With a driver and a guide, you will explore the South of Bali, its famous temples of Tanah Lot, Uluwatu and Mengwi as well as the beaches of Seminyak or Kuta, the cultural and art center of Ubud and the nearby terraced rice fieds of Jatiluwih. You will visit also the wildest part of Bali, the North East: Amed and Sideman around the Mount Agung and the Mother Temple of Besakih.

Day 1 : Airport - Umalas ( - / - /-)
Arrival at Denpasar airport. Welcome by your guide, with Balinese smile and flowers and transfer to Umalas, North of Seminyak.
Installation at Villa Mathis, a haven of peace just minutes from the beach and all the activities and entertainment of Seminyak, the ideal place to start your journey in Bali. Enjoy its 4 swimming pools and a hectare of tropical gardens, in a relaxed and romantic atmosphere...
Dinner, at leisure.

Day 2 : Seminyak - Uluwatu (B / - / D)
Enjoy the morning to relax by the pool or in your lounge to read a book, or if you prefer, you can go to the beaches of Petitenget and Seminyak, or shopping in the area.
In the afternoon: departure for the famous surfing beach down the cliff of Padang-Padang and the temple of Uluwatu, magical place where monkeys reign supreme, at the edge of high cliffs overlooking the Indian ocean.
In the evening: a romantic candlelit dinner will be served in the tropical gardens

Day 3 : Umalas- Tanah Lot (B / L /-)
After breakfast in the garden, departure for the lively Denpasar market: Kumbasari. You will discover a wide variety of Indonesian vegetables and fruits, admire the fish stalls and enjoy the scents and vibrant colors of local spices. It is also a paradise for local handicrafts with many wooden objects, ironwork, jewelry, paintings, etc. You need to negotiate the price – it’s part of the game - but these are the best prices in Bali.
For lunch, we will go to a traditional house, Ibu Ati’s friends, for a succulent Balinese lunch. In the afternoon, excursion to the marine temple of Tanah Lot and back to rest by the pool for the rest of the day.

Day 4 : Umalas - Ubud (B / - / -)
Morning at leisure and no arrangement for lunch.
In the early afternoon, we will drive in the direction of Ubud, with a few stops along the road. First stop: Mengwi to visit the temple of Taman Ayun, raised in the middle of the 17th century by the royal family of the province. Surrounded by large moats, the temple balances buildings and detailed sculptures. The monument is protected by UNESCO., Later, we stop in the forest of Sangeh, where the monkeys live freely, then we continue to Ubud, the famous artist village located in the center of the island.
Check-in Mathis Retreats (4 * charming hotel), offering a generous view over rice fields from its pool, spa and restaurant. Note: the hotel offers free shuttle to the center of Ubud.

Day 5 : Ubud (B / L / -)
In the morning, we go for an open Jeep Safari ride through the rice fields and villages North of Ubud; this is a road to dive into the Balinese atmosphere, see the daily life in the countryside. You can stop anytime you like, for photos, to meet some locals or for ceremonies, if any... We will drive up to Jatiluwih, famous for its picturesque terraced rice terraces classified by UNESCO as World Heritage.
Lunch in Pacung in a beautiful restaurant overlooking the valley. Back to Ubud via the authentic landscapes of Penebel.

Day 6 : Ubud (B / - / -)
The day is yours. No arrangement so you can discover by yourself. Some activities can be organized by the concierge of Mathis Retreats.
A massage treatment of 1-hour is also included during your stay, so you can book and relax.

Day 7 : Ubud – Amed (B / - / -)
After breakfast, departure for the North-East of Bali. On the way, on the way, you will see other sculpted rice fields at Tegallalang, and the spring of Sebatu- according to the legend, the giant Indra pierced the ground and made spring "the amrita" or elixir of immortality. For over 1000 years, the temple and its two basins are frequented by Balinese for the healing powers of their spring water. Regular ceremonies are held there for purification. Next stop is Kitamani mountain village, for the iconic view of Mount Batur (volcano) and the lake.
In the afternoon, we visit the Temple of Besakih, built on the slopes of Mount Agung - it is the most sacred Balinese shrine, the mother of all Temples. We then continue to Amed and help you check-in at Mathis Lodge, newly pen 400m above the see, with a spectacular sun rise view over the sea. 20 bungalows share an exceptional environment, with restaurant and infinity pool of 30 m overlooking the sea.

Day 8 & 9 : Amed (B / - / -)
No arrangements made for these to days. U to you to enjoy the pool, the spa, just relax or ask the hotel team to help you arrange some activities, like snorkeling, diving or trekking.
One evening a cocktail and some tapas will be offered to you at sunset.

Day 10 : Amed - Sidemen (B / L / -)
After breakfast and check out, we drive south with a first stop at royal baths of Tirta Gangga, surrounded by hills covered with terraced fields. We then continue to the temple of Lempuyang on the heights and accessible by hundreds of steps, but you will be rewarded by the view of the volcano Agung through the doors of the temple (if the weather is clear). We stop at the white sand beach of Pasir Putih for a late lunch - grilled fish on the beach, then you can enjoy time for swimming in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
We arrive at the end of the day at Sidemen village, surrounded by the rice terraces and plantations, on time for you to check-in at Surya Shanti Villa, an eco-resort with 2 infinity pools, a riverside spa, a restaurant overlooking the valley.
A foot massage is offered upon arrival.

Day 11 : Sidemen (Brunch / D)
Early in the morning, we walk up to the top of a mountain to reach a beautiful "meru" (temple with multi-tiered thatched roofs "), and to admire a beautiful 360-degree view over the valley. A brunch is served at the top of the mountain near the temple. On the way back, we cross a river where you can refresh yourself and rest for a while.
In the afternoon, it’s pampering time at the spa of Surya Shanti, by the river: 1h30 of treatment including a full body massage, with hot stones, reflexology.
In the evening: a candlelight romantic dinner will be served in a gazebo.

Day 12 : Sidemen (B / L / -)
Today, live a day like a Balinese.
In the morning, leave for the local market of Sidemen to find the necessary ingredients for your Balinese culinary experience. Back at the hotel, discover a traditional Balinese kitchen facing the volcano Agung, and learn how to prepare some typical dished with our chef. On the menu:
- sate lilit (coconut chicken skewers)
- green papaya salad
- corn fritters
and more depending in the season.
For lunch, well… you eat what you have cooked! We will give you the recipe so you can try again back home.

In the afternoon, you will visit Pasraman Vidya Giri, a Balinese activities school, which every day teaches the children of the village traditional dances, gamelan, meditation… in order to perpetuate Balinese traditions and values. This is a nice moment of exchange and sharing with the children.
If you wish, you can bring small gifts, like soft toys, crayons, notebooks.

Day 13 : Sidemen (B / L / -)
In the morning, if you feel like it, we propose you to attend a small Hindu ceremony at the temple with the hotel staff, to witness the traditions and beliefs of the Balinese. You can borrow some traditional outfits.
Later, seat on the back of a scooter, and let us ride you through the Balinese countryside, villages and rice fields dominated by the volcano. If you have seen the movie “all the beauty of the world", you will recognize some of the shooting scenes. When we arrive in Petung, the clear water of the river will be hard to resist (don’t forget your swim suit). When we get back to the village of Sidemen, an unusual lunch will be served: our friend and chef Pak Bagus, will welcome us in his own house, for a gourmet lunch, in the middle of the jungle.
On the way back to the hotel, we can stop in another small village to see the girls weaving with golden threads (Songket).

After breakfast and depending on your flight time, we drive to the airport (domestic or international) to continue your journey.
