Mandalay

Previously the royal capital, Mandalay is set along the Irrawaddy River in northern Burma. Visit the country’s revered Mahamuni Paya temple to see its celebrated 4-meter high gold Buddha. Glimpse at the intricate carvings inside Shwenandaw Monastery. Made entirely out of teak wood, it is the only surviving building from the original wooden royal palace.
