Kumai is the newest boat from Wow Borneo. Silently powered by solar panels, it is 19.5 metres in length and 3.8 metres wide. Previously a fishing boat, it has been remodelled in a local boatyard by experienced Bugis boatmen. Named after the river it was built on, it can accommodate seven passengers, with space on deck to enjoy the views from the comfort of rattan sofas and optional outdoor hammock sleeping. Cruises through the Tanjung Puting National Park are accompanied by five crew and an English-speaking guide. It has 3 air-conditioned cabins with mosquito netting and en-suite bathrooms. The upper viewing deck is completely open, and is furnished with comfortable rattan furniture, and a dining table to enjoy delicious food prepared onboard by the chef.

“We have been operating orangutan cruises in Central Kalimantan since 2008. We use local guides who are experienced in the forest and with the wildlife to take guests on our amazing cruises and walks into the dense forest to view a wide variety of animals, and birds. It’s a nature photographer’s paradise!”
Welcome to Borneo
Secret Retreats Boutique Hotel Collection brings you to Borneo Indonesia, the ultimate destination for eco tours and eco holidays. Home to the fascinating orangutan and approximately another 221 species of mammal, Borneo has long drawn scientists to its shores to study its wonderfully rich and in many cases unique biodiversity, and it’s this rich biodiversity that makes Borneo eco tours so rewarding. Scientists have been visiting and studying Borneo’s wildlife for over 150years, in fact Alfred Wallace, contemporary of Charles Darwin, formed his theory of natural selection as a result of his studies on Borneo. Of the 222 species of mammal, 44 are endemic, of the 420 species of birds 37 are endemic and of the known 15,000 species of plants nearly 6,000 are endemic, the Borneo rainforest, home to the orangutans, is truly place of wonder.
“The sister boat of Sekonyer, this vessel was launched in October 2018. It has three cabins, including one for family (able to accommodate up to four persons). The cruise is a unique way to explore the Borneo jungle and approach orangutans in the wild.”
Kim, the discoverer.
