LOMBOK, INDONESIA<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The island of Lombok in Indonesia is famous for its volcanic\nscenery, and where there\u2019s volcanoes there\u2019s hot springs and mineralized\nnaturally heated water in abundance. A really beautiful island, Lombok is\nsomewhat in the shadow of its more famous neighbour, the island of Bali. Travellers\nto Lombok can enjoy the peace and space that comes with a destination being a\nlittle off the beaten path. Nature\u2019s beauty surrounds you as you explore the\ncharms of the island. Take a trek to the emerald jungles of Mount Rinjani\nNational Park to see Lombok\u2019s wealth of waterfalls and then relax those tired\nmuscles post trek with a soak in the island\u2019s most famous hot spring, \u2018Aik\nKalak Pengkereman Jembangan\u2019. Aik Kalak translates as boiling water and as the\nname suggests, it is a place where one can enjoy bathing in the warm, healing waters\nsurrounded by nature. Aside from bathing, local people have long come to the\nsite to perform rituals and seek blessings. Long considered a magical place,\nlocals still today bring ritual items such as Keris (a dagger typically used in\nreligious rituals) to the spring to wash and bless them and ensure their\nsupernatural powers are intact. Legends have it that Sasak warriors, the Sasak\nare an ethnic group that calls Lombok home, would visit the spring to bathe\nafter battles and the magical waters would heal battle wounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aik Kalak Pengkereman Jembangan is located at about 2,000m\nelevation on the side of Mount Rinjani and in the late afternoon and evening\nthe cooling air makes for a wonderful contrast to the steaming waters of the\nspring. The refreshing atmosphere of the stunning natural scenery on Mount Rinjani\nand the warm, healing waters of the hot spring are guaranteed to soothe and\nrevive all who visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAI – CHIANG MAI, THAILAND<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pai Valley and Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand are both\nblessed with several lovely hot springs that you should definitely visit when\nyou\u2019re next in town. What a treat to take an early morning dip in the warm, crystal-clear\nwater of your very own jungle hot tub! As there are many hot springs in Chiang\nMai and Pai, I\u2019ll give you my personal favorite for each location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ta Pai Hot Springs are probably the most popular hot\nsprings in Pai. The surroundings are somewhat magical, especially at the crack\nof dawn. Imagine steaming hot springs surrounded by nature, with overhanging\nvines and giant tree roots creating natural sculptures to look in wonder at as\nyou bathe. The waters have been channeled by locals into a series of pools,\nringed in local stone, to enable bathing. With waters coming out of the spring\nat an average of 80 \u00b0C it is hot enough to boil an egg! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chiang Mai\u2019s San Kamphaeng Hot Spring is located about 36\nkilometers from town within the forested hills that decorate the city\u2019s\nhorizons. The sulfur rich waters come out of the spring at over 100 \u00b0C and are\nthen carefully channeled through a cascade of pools, where the water cools as\nit channels down. Settle into the waters at the temperature that suits you and\nlet the waters do their work. A great place for picnics it\u2019s a very popular\npark for local people to unwind with family and friends of all generations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hot spring provides spots convenient for simply dipping\nyour toes, feet or legs in the waters, private mineral bath houses, and a\nmineral swimming pool. The perfect spot to relax while enjoying the scenery of\nthe surrounding gardens and lush green mountains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SABAH, MALAYSIA<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Poring Hot Springs are located in lowland forest in the\nshadow of the enigmatic Mount Kinabalu, which at 4,095m is one of SE Asia\u2019s tallest\nmountains. The springs have long been used by locals but were first developed\nby the Japanese during the second world war. Today the springs have become very\npopular for both locals and visitors alike, with the best place to enjoy the\nwaters being at the Poring Hot Springs Resort. The sulfur-rich waters of the\nspring are piped into open-air Japanese style baths where you can rest your\ntired limbs perhaps after a day trekking or climbing the enigmatic Mount\nKinabalu. Soaking in the mineral-infused hot spring waters is considered to be\nvery good for your general health and is also reputed to improve circulation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visitors to Sabah and Kinabalu National Park are blessed\nwith some of the most pristine primary rainforest in the world. At over\n130million years old Sabah and Borneo\u2019s rainforests are twice the age of the\nAmazon rainforest and the forests and national parks of Sabah are home to an\nincredible variety of life. It really is one of the world\u2019s most important\nbio-reserves. The total number of plant species found in Kinabalu for example\nis in fact more than Europe and North America combined.
