Sequoia presents you the incredible woman of the Indonesia
Archipelago. In modern age, things made by hands are rare. The
senior woman woman living in the remote islands are still keeping
their traditional handicraft alive. Sequoia supports them by buying
their custom products for our guests onboard. It is a gift from a
former era – they have been produced for thousands of year.
We adore their quality handmade pieces. From natural dyed
Ikat weaving fabrics to Manta Rays Palm Hat, as well as hand-
painted and hand-drawing batik. They are simply beautiful.
RAJA AMPAT
Mama Maria from Raja Ampat Islands. She is one of the three weavers left in the archipelago who can make a beautiful Manta Ray Hat from Palm tree that grow in the area. It takes two-weeks for her to make one piece. We can meet her and her
beautiful family while exploring Raja Ampat aboard Sequoia from November to April.
SOLOR ALOR
Mama Sumi from Alor Archpelago. She is one of the finest weavers left in the archipelago who can make a beautiful Ikat Fabric from cotton grow in the area. It takes four-weeks or longer for her to make one piece. We can meet her and her beautiful family while exploring Solor Alor aboard Sequoia from September to October.
SEQUOIA CREW
Ibu Emi is our spa therapist and housekeeper onboard Sequoia. She a native from Flores Highland. Sequoia is Indonesian woman-led organization, and supports woman whenever possible. It is a labour of love.
SEQUOIA SEAMSTRESS TEAM
We love beautiful things including Java hand painted Batik fabric. Batik is a Unesco Intangible Cultural Heritage of Human. Bapak Laja is Sequoia seamstress and crew chef. We can make your custom dress, kimono, or any of your choice from our extensive colorful Batik collection aboard Sequoia. They are ready to wear!
