Your Host & The Team

“Rachamankha is a home, and most importantly I want my guests to feel at home, this is our goal at Rachamankha. I have long enjoyed art and design and in particular Asian art and design and through Rachamankha I have been able to share this love of art and design with our guests. Rachamankha has also given me the opportunity to promote Asian, and of course Chiang Mai, art and artists to our guests from around the world. This gives me great pleasure to share one of my life’s great passions.”

Story

“A man’s feet should be planted in his country, but his eyes should survey the world,” wrote George Santayana. Let us see, I think to myself as I walk towards the mysterious Hotel Rachamankha located on a quiet shaded street in the centre of the old city known as Chiang Mai. Standing in the main courtyard, soft golden rays envelop the palm trees around me. The door to a bygone world of this elegant home anchored in time has just opened.

We Care

This resort is very active with the local community, and engages in everything from only employing local people, to sponsoring local artists, puppeteers and performers. Celebrating the cultural diversity of the region and working closely with the Chiang Mai University of Fine Arts, the hotel often organises art functions that explore the rich heritage of Chiang Mai’s Golden Age. In a time where local traditions and cultures risk extinction, Rachamankha’s local efforts enable up-and-coming artists to receive a wider exposure, whilst simultaneously providing guests with an authentic experience of the region’s culture and history.

In the past, Rachamankha has supported traditional events including the Wai Kru ceremony, an artistic ritual that honours a sacred sword. They also support indigenous theatre performances from neighbouring countries, and source their fresh produce from local farmers.

Welcome to Chiang Mai

Surrounded by a moat and ancient wall in northern Thailand, and founded in 1296 by King Mengrai, Chiang Mai, is Thailand’s second-largest city. Previously known as Lanna Thai, this lush and fertile region seduces travellers with its rich traditions, colourful annual festivals, vibrant art scene, artisanal handicrafts that date back some 700 years (ceramics, silversmithing, silk and cotton, jewellery, furniture and hill tribe crafts), sumptuous spas, and varied cuisines.

Soft adventure activities comprise an excursion to the Burmese border through the scenic region, and a day spent with elephants either at an elephant sanctuary or trekking through the jungle. Golfers can play round on one of the numerous nearby courses. Other options include: visiting the city’s most famous landmark Doi Suthep Temple; taking a Lanna cookery course; and hiking in and around Thailand’s highest mountain at one of the nearby two national parks Suthep or Inthanon, whilst passing by remote hill tribe villages and forest temples along the way. More adventurous travellers can enjoy mountain biking, rock climbing, off-road motorcycling trails, and 4WD excursions. Offering a warm, welcoming atmosphere, laden with captivating experiences, Chiang Mai is a celebration of life’s beauty.
