Your Host & The Team

Lucienne Anhar“Tugu Hotels aim to keep the rich cultural heritage and the romantic, thousands-years-old history of Indonesia alive. Our lifelong passion for Indonesian arts and history was started by my father and proprietor, Anhar Setjadibrata, who had begun collecting Indonesian antiques when he was a young poor medical student in the 1960s. His passion then grew to become a family mission to bring back to life the art, soul and romance of Indonesia, and to introduce them to the world in a package of dreamy landscapes, atmospheric interior and arts that transports guests to another world of ancient kingdoms and quixotic legends. Each Tugu is designed, built, and managed personally by the owner’s family without outside architect or interior designers, as each of them is a work of love. Secret Retreats is a fellowship of passionate owners opening their doors to share their love and legends.”

Under the protective wings of an enormous statue of Garuda, I enter Tugu Bali’s vast and ornate lobby, lined with towering teak columns and a gleaming tiled floor. Long, thin colourful drapes sway in the gentle, salty sea breeze. Filled with over 1,000 exquisite antiques comprising masks, sculpted chests, scintillating batik, and other objects d’art that adorn this locale, Tugu Bali is a veritable living museum. Walking outdoors to the quiet beachside setting situated just north of Seminyak, a glorious rainbow greets me from the heavens above. Meandering through the lush tropical gardens, amidst statues and a crystal blue swimming pool, a soft rain begins to fall, instantly soothing my inner soul.

Welcome to Bali

Immerse in Bali’s rich and unique culture with a visit to Tanah Lot and its sea temple, or one of the many other wonderful temples (pura) scattered throughout the “Island of the Gods”. Embrace a Balinese dancing and gamelan lesson, cookery class, spa treatments, yoga or meditation, or explore the artist village Ubud located in the centre of the island. Delight in myriad watersports including fishing, river rafting, surfing, diving and snorkeling. Golf, or trek at sunrise on the spectacular volcanic Mount Batur Trek and other scenic hiking trails. Additional adventure options include mountain biking, paragliding, horseback riding, elephant safaris, and canyoning. Located just north of Legian, Seminyak is at once both sophisticated and relaxing. Known for its wonderful boutiques, spas, restaurants, cafés, and bars, it is one of the island’s quaintest towns. Slightly north, Canggu is set amidst rolling hills lined with rice paddies, and dark grey sand beaches. Experience Sanur, one of Bali’s oldest fishing villages on the southeastern coast. Witness Jimbaran Bay’s magnificent limestone cliff-fringed coastlines and lovely beaches. Situated in East Bali, the stunning scenery and simple, traditional Balinese way of life in Sidemen is equally enriching. A feast for the senses—Bali.
