Story

Navigating along the Huangpu River that glistens with hues of gold, I feel this may well be the best way to observe just how immense Shanghai really is. Yet here in one of Asia’s most cosmopolitan cities, its distinctive 1920’s feel is really most visible in the heart of the old city on Nanjing Road, where both the Shanghai Museum and the Shanghai Grand Opera House are located. As a lover of experiential experiences, I am eager to see what my stay at Homa Moon Lake will be like.

Welcome to Shanghai

Filled with a rich history and culture, Shanghai is a fascinating blend of sprawling skyscrapers interspersed with narrow alleys lined with traditional Chinese architecture. Old stone gate residences known as shikumen can be found on the fashionable pedestrian street Xin Tian Di. Established in 1849, and laced with cafés, restaurants, art galleries and chic boutiques, unique architecture showcasing European style buildings with Chinese panache are located in the famed French Concession. Tianzifang is another popular area to visit.

At the symbol of Shanghai The Bund, visitors can marvel at the spectacular views and take a boat cruise along the Huangpu River to glimpse at the city’s landmarks. The lovely, traditional Yuyuan Garden also has wondrous scenic views. More history and culture can be discovered at both the Shanghai Museum and the stylish Shanghai Grand Theatre. Gourmands will delight in the local cuisine including Shanghai’s famed xiaolongbao (steamed dumplings). For shoppers, Nanjing Road is deemed China’s premier commercial street, Old Shanghai Street is laden with antique shops, and the art district M50 is home to art galleries and studios. A charming, flourishing metropolis—Shanghai.
